Last week I published an article on the new black bar that has been appearing for select local search terms involving entertainment, hotels, restaurants and attractions.
Well there is new information that has come out about this that I will share with you.

Per Search Engine Watch the official name of this black bar is the Google Local Carousel.
Heat Map Study of Google Carousel
Search Engine Watch also reported that two SEO agencies independently conducted heat map studies and the results confirmed that the carousel results were favorite areas for users to click on and that the reviews of a result were one of the major determining factors.
Long Tail Keywords – Important Strategy
Also noted in this article was that “having a long tail keyword site content strategy” is an important factor in showing up in as many carousels and map results as possible!
300+ Keywords and Phrases that Trigger Google Local Carousel
Mike Blumenthal has so graciously put together a Google Doc’s keyword spreadsheet that documents over 300+ keywords that are now triggering Google’s Carousel. You can also add new keywords to it if you find any.
