does-building-links-work

This was our 1st question from Scott Schilling who owns a computer repair store in Wickenburg Arizona.

Scott we were so impressed by your question that David created a new article on our site to answer your question in more detail “Link Optimization vs. Link Building

But basically yes, link building will still influence your rankings in the search engines. What has changed are the mechanics of how you build your linking profile.

For more information please watch this week’s “Ask a SEO Expert” video on the top of this article.

How can I repurpose my content on my website?

Can I repurpose content?

David I use the “rule of 7” which basically means that you try to repurpose your content at least 7 times.

Lets take this article for example

  1. I asked our community for their questions on our SEO Roadmap Facebook page, you responded
  2. I created a 33-minute video to answer your question and our other members questions and then posted them on Facebook and YouTube
  3. I took Scott’s question about links and had David write an article that cross references this article
  4. I then wrote this article you’re reading now and posted it to our site
  5. I embedded our YouTube video into the article
  6. I added the article and video to our SEORoadmap Google + page
  7. I then reposted this on my personal Google + Page
  8. I then posted the link to this article on our SEORoadmap Facebook page
  9. I then reposted it on my personal Facebook page
  10. Then I tweeted the video(s), articles on my Twitter account
  11. I then used Pingler to ping the articles, videos and social media entries
  12. I then may re-write this article and repost it on Ezine articles, Hubpages, Squido or other web 2.0 sites with links back to this article and to the videos

Do you think PR Web is the only way to go for press releases?

PRWeb

John, we focus on using PR Web and several other news submission sites for building a sites branding, not for link building in general.

Your site’s branding is extremely important post Google Penguin and we go into much more detail on how to build your brand in this article and video.

Some other programs and Web 2.0 properties we use include Hootsuite, You Like Hits and Pixel Pipe videos.

Can I combine an eCommerce website along with an affiliate website?

Affiliate Marketing vs eCommerce

Penny yes you can, but in this week’s “Ask a SEO Expert video” I explain several pitfalls you should avoid as Google HATES thin websites and duplicate content.

Another video and article I would recommend watching and reading is “How to Google Proof your site

Onsite SEO – Internal Linking

Internal Linking

Penny as long as you stick with your goal in making your site easy for your customers to find what they want you should do fine but I do want to caution you about over-optimization.

In our research we have found that the Google Penguin algorithm focuses on 35% of your onsite SEO.

Another SEO tip I would recommend is to take in consideration Google’s Knowledge graph when developing new content for your website.

For more information please watch this week’s “Ask a SEO Expert” video on the top of this article.

How can I remove duplicate content?

Gene, the easiest way would be to find another WordPress calendar plug in that will not create all these duplicate pages.

Your other options would be to either contact the programmer to update it, find a programmer that can modify it, hand edit your robots.txt file each time it creates a new page and exclude them, or somehow add the canonical tag to all these new entries.

Steven Ferrino has an excellent article here on “Why You Should Use Canonical Tags” for more information.

How do I get my site recognized as a brand?

Branding for SEO

John, to answer your question we need to understand what a brand is first:

A brand is a Name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller’s good or service as distinct from those of other sellers.”

So with this in mind your website URL is a brand, your company logo is your brand, the name of your company is your brand and your moniker (Radar Roy) or name can even become your brand.

We go into “Branding Signals for SEO” in a lot more detail in this video and post.
