2011 Local and Organic Ranking Factors

There are 82 positive ranking factors and 19 negative ranking factors in the Google local algorithm that have been identified (a full listing is provided in our DVD training)

But basically these 101 factors focus on only 3 things:

  • Relevance
  • Prominence
  • Distance

Out of these 3 factors the ONLY thing we cannot optimize for is distance

Relevance

  • The name of your business
  • What you say about your business on Google Places Page

#1 Relevancy Factor is claiming all your business listings in ALL the major search engines

Tips

  • MANUALLY claim your listings, even if you have multiple locations
    • Increases level of trust
    • Bulk uploads are vulnerable to spam
  • Use keywords in your business title
    • If necessary consider re-incorporating using a descriptive keyword/location

  • Upload at least 5 photos/images – GeoTag them

  • Non Mobile friendly websites consider using your contact page your Google Places landing page and optimize that for mobile.
  • Mobile users want to call phone number, find address

Prominence is determined by what TRUSTED people say about your business

Citations are the fingerprints of your company across the entire spectrum of the Internet.

  • The authority of the citations
  • Vertically relevant
  • Geographically relevant
  • External title tags and location of the citations
