Top 10 Tools I Can’t Live Without!

Recently on one of my coaching calls, I was asked to give the Top 10 Internet Marketing Tools that I would absolutely have to have to succeed in Internet Marketing.

I really have never sat down and had to explain which ones that I “absolutely MUST have.”  But after I started thinking about it, there are a few tools that EVERY Internet marketer must use.

So here they are…

1.  Fast Computer and High Speed Internet Connection

Some of you just started laughing; others of you are in self-denial.  I am going to make a very bold statement, but “I have never met an Internet Marketing Millionaire, that did not have High Speed Internet or a fast computer.”   The ability to make lots of cash online is having the ability of speed.  The next time you are working on a project, calculate the total amount of time that you are either waiting for your computer to “think” or your Internet browser to load.  You will be amazed on how much time you are wasting.

I am not saying that you need the most expensive computer available, but what I am saying is don’t allow a junk computer or a slow Internet connection keep you from succeeding online.

2. Wunderlist

One of the things that I learned early on is the need to have accurate and current To-Do Lists.

If you are like me, I had a Legal Pad on my desk at all times and had an ongoing list constantly in front of me.  However, after a week or so, my notepad looked like a war zone or some new theory in quantum physics.

The problem with keeping ahead of all the work that is involved with Internet Marketing is keeping track of each item that needs completed.

However, I was never able to find any program that I could take with me and have on my iPad, iPhone and iMac or for you “other” guys, PC, Android or other devices.

Well finally we have a simple app that makes this possible. or log in to your App Store and Search for Wunderlist.  Not only will you be able to keep accurate lists, you can share any one of your lists with other members on your team.   So the next time you are sitting in an airport creating a list for your team members to complete, they can have immediate access, without emails or without phone calls.

Best of all….IT IS FREE.

3.  Firefox

The difference between a successful Internet marketer and a struggling one, usually comes down to two things.

  1. Lack of maturity in putting knowledge into practice.  (Definitely another article)
  2. Not consistently using the right tools.

Most Internet marketers have seen hundreds of hours of videos and have read thousands of articles on EVERY tool imaginable.   They have also spent $1,000’s of dollars to buy ALL of the tools that every “Guru” says that they need.

However, they are not using the “Every Day” tools that I see some of the best Internet Marketers use on a daily basis.

Firefox is the foundation of these tools.  As a browser, there are faster ones out there, but as a foundation for all of your tools, it stands alone.

Here is a quick list of all of the plugins that I use on a DAILY basis.

  1. Quirk Search Status – Quick Competitive Analysis
  2. FireBug – (MY FAVORITE) Allows for me to search for specific code of a website and to be able to understand which code needs edited to change a design element on a website.
  3. YSlow – Website Load speeds and errors
  4. SEOQuake – Great for doing competitive analysis
  5. RankChecker – Quick way to look at individual rankings
  6. Firepicker – Easily get the exact color of a web design element
  7. FireSizer – Resize your Browser so you can see how your website would look on different screen sizes.
  8. S3Fox – Shortcut for Amazon S3 Video uploader.
  9. SEOMoz Toolbar – Onsite and Competitive analysis
  10. GreaseMonkey – allows for additional scripts to be used in Firefox.

4.  Comfy Chair

What!  A comfy chair is one of your most valuable tools?  ABSOLUTELY!

Me and my chair (Do I hear the beginnings of a song) have spent a lot of time together.  We have been through war together and have become emotionally attached.

A few years ago, my wife decided that I needed a NEW chair in my office since mine has started to show some wear.  Christmas morning came and a New Shiny Chair was sitting in my office with a nice ribbon tied on it.

Now all of you that are married understand that occasionally you need to use tact in a relationship.  (This should have been one of these moments)

I was in disbelief.  How could she take my prized possession and discard it like an old pair of socks!

Needless to say, I could have handled that situation a little better.  Today, here I sit typing this email still on my nice comfy chair.  (And my wife now understands how I feel about my chair)

5.  Wireless Headset

Throughout any given day, I will spend a few hours a day either on the phone or on Skype.  Normally, I would use just my speakers and microphone, but I began to listen to the people I was talking to and began to get frustrated with all of the background noise that I had to put up with every day.

As a business, we strive to create the best atmosphere for the people that we deal with everyday and one of those ways it to make sure that we have best quality conversations and interactions that we can have.

A Wireless Headset allows me to walk through the majority of my home and still maintain a conversation.  It also allows me to MUTE myself very quickly (Great when you have four little rugrats that are in and out of your office every day).  Everybody that you talk to will be glad that there is no background noise in your call.

Here is the one that I use
Plantronics .Audio 995 Wireless Stereo Headset

6.  Google Docs

I absolutely love how easy Google Docs has made working with International team members.  You can have members around the world working on the exact same document at the exact same time.   This is an invaluable resource.

To learn more on how to use them…

7.  iTunes

This Tool maybe a personal preference, but I find that my ability to maintain a high level of work is based on my mindset.

If I have a “conquering” mindset, I can work for hours on end without changing positions.  However, if I am in a “help its Friday and I want to get out of my office”, than it is impossible for me to get things done.

To help me keep in a “conquering” mindset, I like to have my favorite music, podcasts, or other material playing that keeps me encouraged.

8.  GoToMeeting

Having the ability to host a Screen share and a meeting on a short notice is priceless in running an online business.  This can really shorten the amount of time in communicating with your team.

Also, with GoToWebinar, you can host up to 1,000 people in a webinar and you can easily show them your screen.

9.  Organized Closet

Recently, I totally upgraded my office so that I can get ready to host two live shows and podcasts. (Stay tuned for a video tour) In my redesign, I remolded my entire office and installed organizers into my closed that hold all of my extra wires, equipment, books and etc. that I use on an occasional basis.

This allows me to keep my desk free from clutter and all of my “occasionally” used tools within quick and easy reach.

10. Rank Tracker

“Knowledge is power” Having the knowledge of how each one of your websites are doing on a daily basis provides you with actionable data.

Every night my computer automatically checks all of my keyword rankings that I am targeting with all of our websites.

This allows me to keep track of how well the website is doing and to give extra effort to rankings that are doing extremely well.

Well worth the $99 to have this amount of information
