Seven SEO Tips for Blogging
When we discuss the importance of adding new content to your website on a regular basis during our Search Engine Optimization training classes typically one of the first comments one of the student’s will share is, “I don’t have the time” or “there is nothing interesting to write about in my business”
I felt the same way too when I started out in Internet Marketing back in the 90’s but dedicated one hour of the week to writing just one new article for my website.
In a few weeks this developed into a routine that I actually started to enjoy and as I began writing more content, Google began taking notice and started increasing the ranking of my site.
Here are eight tips that I found helpful during my fourteen year career in Internet Marketing that you can use to help you get over the hump of writing and to perhaps make it an enjoyable part of your week.
1 – Keep a Journal; If something happens during the week that you think your audience maybe interested in jot it down in your personal journal.
2 – Include Keywords In Title; the search engine pays particular attention to the titles of your articles scanning your title for keywords relevant to your article, therefore be sure to include them.
3– Write for Your Human Readers First; be sure that your content and title is relevant for your audience and that it is easy to read, understand and memorable. Then do a slight rewrite for the search engines.
4 – Theme Your Article; be sure to include other keywords and keyword themes into the body of your article to increase its relevancy.
An example of this would be if your article is about blogging you may want to also include other themed keywords such as “Wordpress” and “Blogger”
A great tool to identify themed keywords relevant to your targeted main keyword phrase is SEO Scout.
5 – Make Your Title Catchy; take the time to make the title of your post catchy to “reel in” your target audience.
6 – Use images and videos; ad photos, videos and other multimedia into your posts. This will help engage your audience and will also help in getting your site indexed into “Universal Search” such as YouTube and Google Image Search.
7 – Include Links; Remember to link to other relevant posts/pages on your own website or even to other websites using keyword anchor links.
